Maryland man uses spare change to buy lottery ticket, wins $100K

A lucky man from Prince George’s County, Maryland, won a top prize of $100,000 from the MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off game. He nearly missed out on the windfall after setting the ticket aside for two weeks.

The Clinton resident usually plays Pick 3 and Pick 4 games but buys scratch-offs when he has spare change. Recently, he picked up a $10 MONOPOLY X50 ticket at Marlboro Village Exxon, 5111 John Roger Boulevard, Upper Marlboro, simply because it was the first one he saw.

After buying the ticket, he forgot about it. Two weeks later, he checked it again and matched number 54, which corresponds to a $100,000 top prize. Still in disbelief, he checked the ticket multiple times before claiming his winnings at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

When asked about his plans, the winner said he intends to keep the news private, invest the money, and build a new fence for his house.

MONOPOLY X50 tickets cost $10 and offer prizes ranging from $10 to $100,000. After this recent win, three top prizes of $100,000 remain unclaimed. The game also features tier-two prizes of $50,000 (three still available) and tier-three prizes of $10,000 (six still available). The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.29.
